Why are your habits important?
Because they are the unconscious programming that you use to travel though your day. There are so many decisions for us to make that it would be paralyzing for us to have to spend our mental energy on every one. We use habits as a shortcut.
Habits aren’t bad or good in themselves; it’s whether your habits get you to where you want to go. If you want to lose weight, for example, and your habit is choosing fries every time you go out to eat, that’s probably not going to help. If you are trying to control your temper, and you have the habit of counting to ten when you get angry, that’s probably a good idea.
What you will develop from the Book of Habits
The goal of the book of habits is to create a better you. Not that you aren’t perfect just the way you are, but it will help create small daily rituals that will enable you to achieve some of your personal goals. Whether it’s to build more solid relationships, improve your physical health, or get control of your hectic schedule, by delving into the habits you can create more tools to help you succeed in these areas
The Book of Habits is based on a simple premise. Instead of trying to change everything in your life in a big way all at once, what would happen if you just made one little change, fully integrated it, and then made another small change? You would become a much different person as you added up each of those little changes.
The Book of Habits isn’t going to do the work for you, just like simply owning a work-out video isn’t going to get you into shape. It will be a guide for you, like having a personal trainer for your life. Once you have put all 12 habits into place, it will only add 10-15 minutes of time to your life, but you won’t even notice because:
-you've developed them one at a time and your subconscious mind is doing all the work.
-and-
-many of the habits will actually help you find more time in your life for the things that are important to you.
